Probably one of the most common question doctors, and especially pediatricians, get asked by patients, parents, and even friends and family at home is, “What’s this rash?” While the majority of rashes are mild and get better on their own, some do require medical attention or prescription treatments. This page is designed to help parents and families better understand common childhood skin conditions, basic skin care routines, and when it may be time to see your pediatrician.

Routine Skin Care
This is similar across all ages, and is the foundation for almost every skin condition. This should become a day to day routine, similar to brushing your teeth, for prevention and to protection. In general, follow these simple principles:
1. Clean
2. Moisturize
3. Sun Protection
Always try to select perfume and fragrance-free soaps, laundry detergents, and creams. Depending on your location, general humidity level, skin type, and other medical issues, you may need to adjust your daily skin care routine. Talk with your doctor or dermatologist for individualized recommendations and treatments as needed.
Here are some of my favorite over-the-counter lotions and products that I recommend for daily use.
By the way, the AQUAPHOR STICK is probably my all-time favorite skin-care item! I have one of these in almost every room of my house, at work, on my nightstand, and my kids love it too!
